Sylvester (also known as "Sly" by some) continues to be one of our long-standing members since the inception
of our chapter. He joined SVTOA-Toronto in 2001. He is a very active
member often sharing his passion for fast Fords with his family and friends at our events.
His "SVT PONY" represents his passion for fast Fords. It's a 2001 Ford
Mustang Cobra Convertible with a Laser Red exterior and Parchment interior.
Sylvester bought this stunning topless beauty from Dixie Ford in July of that year, however it meant trading in his black 2000 GT
convertible (BLK PONY).
His family would often pile into the Cobra for a leisurely cruise
throughout the Halton region.
In 2006, Sylvester heard the hisses of
blow-off valves and he was introduced to the world of turbochargers.
Months later, the SVT PONY got an extreme makeover sporting twin
turbochargers with intercooler that make 502HP/500ft.lb of torque. Both
Sylvester and his wife, Margaret, love driving it, and still find it
easy to drive and live with in daily life. We'll hopefully find out how
fast his Cobra really is at an upcoming test and tune or dyno event.
Alongside the SVT PONY is a commemorative spot for his 2002 Performance
Red SVT Focus (you may remember seeing it as our Class Runner-Up winner
at the 2006 Performance World Car and Truck show). The Focus also saw
daily duties such as grocery hauling, trips to the lumberyard, and
outings with his family.
It
was also to become a runabout vehicle for his son, Michael, as soon he
got his license. Shortly after the show, Sylvester took out his Focus
for a quick spin to stretch out her legs. A nice person getting
practice driving went through an intersection and t-boned his car.
Sylvester managed to walk away with only some bumps and bruises. His
SVT Focus was determined to be totalled as a result of the crash, but
it became a testament to the Focus' crash worthiness and safety. The
hunt now begins for another fast Ford to take its place.
Even with the passion for the Blue Oval, Sylvester still has a place in
his heart for his Camaro. In their stable of vehicles rests a 1998
Chevrolet Camaro convertible. This one is Margaret's baby. At that time,
Sylvester was driving a yellow Firefly convertible. "I always wanted a Camaro," she said, and so the story goes. Two years
later he tried to trade the V6 on 2000 SS. Margaret said, "No, I love my
car!" Sly replies, "It's a Pony Car. I can live with that." (Now that's real love right there.) |
