2008 Dixie Ford Annual Show & Shine

There's no better way to salute the end of summer with a car show. For 2008, SVTOA-Toronto celebrated with its Annual Show & Shine held at Dixie Ford.

This year, our Show & Shine was again co-hosted with our friends at R&A Classic Car Shows, a group of passionate people who love their classic cars and trucks. Some of their members attended our show with a variety of antiques, muscle cars, and hot rods.

Unlike last year, the weather did decide to cooperate with us and bring sunny skies and cool temperatures. It was an absolutely great day for everyone who came out to the event. One by one, show participants filed into the dealership lot. In just a few hours, the lot at Dixie Ford was filled with over 130 vehicles of all ages and makes. There was quite a large contingent of Ford family vehicles at this year's event. From SVT Contours to Foci to Mustang Cobras to Lightnings, our members were in fine form showing their passion and enthusiasm for SVT and Ford.

While enthusiasts milled about checking out the vehicles, many made their way to the Dixie Speed Shop for their Ford Racing Performance Parts, accessories and apparel, as well as seeing the massive garage sale on take-off parts in need of a caring owner to take them home.

In between the cars and shopping, quite a few stopped off at the gazebo for some burgers and hot dogs to silence the rumble in their bellies. Our friends at Culinary Motion were up to task dishing out delicious veal sandwiches and mouth-watering sausages to all. (Some of you may remember Culinary Motion, as they were our caterers for our 2007 Christmas Party and 2008 SVTOA Redline Rendezvous banquet).

As with any show & shine, kudos have to be given to those with vehicles that truly stand out from the crowd. Based on the success of last year's show, we again turned the show voting over to the participants. Everyone who registered a vehicle was given a chance to vote for the top five vehicles of their choice. In the end, it was time to recognize the top five vehicles of the show (in no particular order):

  • Alan Thomson - Ford Deuce Coupe
  • Jim Martin - 1956 Ford Crown Victoria
  • Andy Scultety - 2004 Ford Mustang SVT Mystichrome Cobra
  • Tim Chisolm - 2000 Ford Mustang GT; and
  • Steve Heck - 1965 Shelby FFR Cobra

Thanks again to the generosity of Dixie Ford, this year's show also saw amazing drivers' prizes. Among the giveaway items were a GPS navigation system, a digital camera, a garage toolkit, mini-bar fridge, a DVD player, and lots of shirts, hats, and golf balls.

Our thank you list is pretty long. SVTOA-Toronto wants to thank all of the following:

  • Ted Hogan and his staff at Dixie Ford, for their continued support of our Annual Show and Shine
  • Up To 11, our live entertainment for the day
  • Culinary Motion, our event caterers - For all your catering needs, where they work and you play!
  • All the volunteers and members from R&A Classic Car Show and SVTOA-Toronto for lending a hand; and
  • Last, but certainly not the least, we like to thank all the participants and spectators who came out for this year's show.

Congratulations to all the winners. We will see you at next year's Show & Shine.
